Autumn Term 2020

This is Me!

English - We will be looking at stories with familiar setting including The Tiger who came to Tea, Dogger and Whatever Next. Writing labels and captions about clothes including our favourite t-shirt and learning songs and poems off by heart and performing them. 

We will reading a range of different books both independently and as a class. Discussing the characters, predicting what will happen and looking at the vocabulary used. Our class text is The boy who grew dragons. Home reading books will be changed on Wednesdays. 

We will be perfecting our letter formation trying to make sure that all our letters are correctly formed. 

Phonics - We will be recapping Phase 5 in preparation for the Phonics screening in Autumn 2 and beginning to look at Phase 6 spellings. 

Maths - We will be ensuring we know our numbers to 20 and beyond including writing the number words, finding 1 more and 1 less, counting forwards and backwards. We will be looking at place value and ensuring we know how many tens and how many ones are in numbers to 20 and beyond.  We will be adding and subtracting using numbers to 20 including missing number calculations e.g. 5 + ? = 9. We will be learning our number bonds to 10 and then 20. 

In Science we are looking at animals including Humans. This will include the different groups of animals such as mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish. We will be looking at animals and their babies. We will be looking at animal diets and if they are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. We will look at the basic needs of humans and how they can stay healthy including through healthy eating, exercise and hygiene. 

In History and Geography we will be looking at the playground and school environment. 

In PE we will be be doing socially distanced multi-skills outdoors including jogging, jumping and ball skills. Our PE day is Wednesday and children need to come to school in their PE kit. 

In Art we are looking at portrait artists and creating our own self portraits using a range of materials/ styles.
