Climate Action Plan

Our School's Climate Action Plan

Led by Ian Matthews (Sustainability Lead), our school has launched a Climate Action Plan to address the climate and ecological emergency.

Our vision is to create a greener, more sustainable learning environment and empower our children to become responsible global citizens.

This plan, adopted in September 2025, formalises our commitment.

The plan is structured around four key goals set by the Department for Education:

  1. Climate Education: We will embed sustainability across the curriculum, establish a student-led 'Eco-Committee', and host a 'Green Careers Week' to inspire our students.

  2. Decarbonisation: We aim to reduce our energy consumption by 10% through practical steps like an energy audit, switching to LED lighting, and running a 'Switch Off' campaign.

  3. Biodiversity: We will enhance our school grounds by creating a wildflower meadow, building insect hotels, planting a vegetable garden, and increasing outdoor learning opportunities.

  4. Adaptation & Resilience: We will make our school site more resilient to climate impacts by planting trees for shade and improving rainwater capture.

Beyond this, we will reduce waste through better recycling and composting, and promote sustainable purchasing across the school.

This is a whole-school commitment. We will be working closely with staff, students, governors, and our local Darwen community to bring this plan to life and make a real, positive difference.
